On a trip to San Angelo, Texas, your group will find a place where neighbors band together after disaster, and hope is rebuilt. In early July 2025, San Angelo was one of many areas struck by catastrophic flash flooding. They experienced record rainfalls that left over 1,000 homes with major damage and transformed familiar streets into impassable waterways.

On a Be The Neighbor trip to San Angelo, your group will partner with Week of Compassion to engage in Disaster Relief and Recovery through both immediate-action service and sustained community learning. Your group might help clear debris, assist with home repairs, distribute essential supplies, or partner with local shelters and disaster response organizations. You’ll also hear from people whose lives were upended by the flood and explore what long-term recovery looks like.

The San Angelo trip shows how disaster isn’t just about what’s lost, it’s also about how we rebuild. You’ll leave with new skills from the work you've done and a greater understanding about how we can respond to disasters both immediately and more long term.

Your group will explore how the topics you’re learning about are relevant to your own community and will develop a plan for how you can continue this work when you get home. Be The Neighbor weeks are learning and launching trips, meaning participants will leave the week equipped to live lives of love, service, and justice in ways that are relational, sustainable, and dignity-affirming!

Be The Neighbor’s summer programming begins on Sunday evening and concludes on Friday morning. You may stay an additional night to explore see the city in this location for an additional $10 per person. Check out is 10 am Saturday morning.
