About Food Insecurity in Fort Worth
Fort Worth, Texas, faces significant challenges with food insecurity, with over 18% of its residents experiencing difficulties accessing sufficient and nutritious food. This pressing issue highlights the need for effective and compassionate responses from the community.

During your Be The Neighbor trip to Fort Worth, your group will delve into various aspects of hunger relief through direct engagement and hands-on service. You will partner with local organizations and churches that are actively addressing food insecurity in the area. Activities will include working in community gardens that grow fresh produce for those in need, serving at food pantries that distribute essential groceries, and participating in cooking programs that provide nutritious meals. Your trip will also include opportunities learn about and engage in advocacy efforts aimed at addressing systemic issues related to food insecurity like eliminating food deserts and advocating for fair food policies that promote equitable access to healthy food.

About Education Justice in Fort Worth
Access to quality education for all is key to building just communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Public education fosters equitable opportunities for all individuals, regardless of background. Access to a quality education enables individuals to achieve professional success, to be equipped with the skills, tools and knowledge to live out their calling, to participate as active contributing members of the community, and develop the critical thinking skills to help them and their communities to thrive.

On this trip, your group will learn how to work for education justice in Fort Worth and in your community through hands on service, advocacy, and education. Your group will have the opportunity to volunteer in schools, helping to care for their building through things like painting, building playgrounds, and organizing so that all kids can have beautiful places to learn. You will do hands-on service with children and educators, summer food programs, and more! In addition you will get to learn from and with educators and education advocates from organizations. You will make a difference for kids across Fort Worth and will go home with the skills to make sure that every kid in your town can have an amazing education!

Your group will explore how the topics you’re learning about are relevant to your own community and will develop a plan for how you can continue this work when you get home. Be The Neighbor weeks are learning and launching trips, meaning participants will leave the week equipped to live lives of love, service, and justice in ways that are relational, sustainable, and dignity-affirming!
Be The Neighbor’s summer programming begins on Sunday evening and concludes on Friday morning. You may stay an additional night to explore see the city in this location for an additional $10 per person. Check out is 10 am Saturday morning.

A simple breakfast, lunch and snack Monday morning through Friday morning

A dedicated Site Director and Intern(s) to facilitate your week

Fully planned service and educational experiences

Theological reflections created to engage participants in connecting what they are learning to their faith

Lodging, including showers, dedicated sleeping rooms, gathering rooms, and kitchens use - most sites include air mattresses or cots for all of your participants

Costs covered for honorariums for speakers, activities, supplies for projects with community partners, and any entrance fees for educational experiences
