Site Director Highlight: Leah Eubanks, Mayfield

Be The Neighbor Site Directors work with local nonprofits and subject matter experts to plan a trip that teaches participants about the different topics impacting the communities they serve, and many communities around the United States. They work hard to develop our trips and we couldn't fulfill our mission to live lives of love, service, and justice without them. We find them all inspiring and want to share with you, so that you can be inspired too!

Leah is working with Week of Compassion in Mayfield, KY to help groups to learn how they can be a part of the disaster relief efforts following the tornados in that area in 2021.

How long have you worked with Be The Neighbor?

This will be my first summer!

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I am looking forward to the relationships built during trips.

Tell us more about the justice topic that groups will focus on at your site. How does that issue impact your community? Tell us about your passion for that topic.

In Mayfield we will focus on Housing Justice for those who lost their homes during the tornados in December 2021. We will witness how communities and community leaders have come together to provide safe and affordable homes to survivors. We also recognize the effects of the Climate Crisis on these communities as well as the overwhelming impact on marginalized people. Addressing climate justice, racial justice, and housing justice holistically will help us meet the needs of survivors now and provide us all with a more sustainable future.

What does your life look like when you're not being a Site Director for Be The Neighbor?

I currently work as the Missions and Outreach Director at First Christian Church in Paducah, KY where we are addressing food insecurity, housing justice, reconciliation, and climate justice through ministries and outreach work in our community. I'm the a wife of a pastor and a mom of two beautiful daughters who do all things girly. In my spare time I love being outside and enjoying my perennial garden.
